«دنباله‌روی نزدیک» (tailgating) اصطلاحی است برای وقتی که راننده یا موتورسوار خیلی نزدیک به وسیله‌ی نقلیه‌ی جلویی حرکت می‌کند. این کار خطرناک است، چون دید شما از جاده‌ی جلو را محدود می‌کند و اگر خودروی جلویی ناگهان سرعتش را کم کند یا بایستد، هیچ حاشیه‌ی ایمنی برایتان نمی‌ماند. دنباله‌روی نزدیک اغلب علت اصلی تصادف از پشت یا تصادف‌های زنجیره‌ای است.
